Pollination

Peach varieties are self-fertile and crop without a pollinator. For Maycrest and Spring Belle we also list pollinators, which make the crop more reliable.

Planting and spacing

Fruit trees go on sale after 15 November, when they are fully dormant. Plant them straight away, before the hard frosts, because autumn planting gives better rooting and growth the following year. If you miss the autumn, plant early in spring. Planting holes should be at least 80 by 80 by 80 centimetres, and the tree goes in at the same depth as it grew in the nursery.

Trained as a central leader, peach trees are planted 4 by 2 to 3 metres or 4.5 by 2 to 3 metres apart.

Peach trees fruit early, in the second or third year after planting.
